    • Follow all surgeon-specific instructions
    • Keep follow-up appointments for healing checks

    Neck Dissection recovery, day by day

    Day 0

    Immediate Aftercare

    • Follow all discharge instructions from your ENT surgeon
    • Take pain medication before numbness or anesthesia fully wears off
    • Keep head elevated at 30-45 degrees, 2-3 pillows to reduce swelling
    • Rest for the remainder of the day

    Activity & Diet

    • Soft foods as tolerated
    • Avoid strenuous activity
    • No heavy lifting, >10 lbs for 2 weeks
    • Stay well hydrated
    Days 1-7

    Recovery Expectations

    • Some swelling and discomfort is expected
    • Monitor for signs of infection
    • Take all medications on schedule, not just when pain is severe
    • Ice packs on the outside can help with swelling

    Wound Care

    • Keep incision clean and dry
    • Do not swim, submerge in water, or use hot tubs
    • Avoid straining and heavy lifting
    Days 8-14

    Continued Healing

    • Gradually resume normal activities
    • Attend all follow-up appointments
    • Full healing typically takes several weeks
    • Resume normal diet and activity as comfort allows

    When to call your provider or 911

    • Call 911 now for trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, or swelling of the face or throat
    • Call your clinic promptly for fever or chills, bleeding that does not stop with firm pressure, or pain not controlled by your clinician-approved plan
    • Call your clinic for hives or another possible allergic reaction that is not affecting breathing or causing facial or throat swelling
    • Call your care team today if you notice: Redness, warmth, or pus at the incision site, signs of infection
    • Call your care team today if you notice: Sudden increase in swelling or pain after initial improvement
    • Call your care team today if you notice: Numbness or tingling that worsens
    • Call your care team today if you notice: High fever above 101.5°F
