Starting Your Medication
- Take your medication at the same time every day
- Side effects are often worst in the first 1-2 weeks and then improve
- Do NOT stop your medication suddenly without talking to your prescriber, risk of withdrawal
- Keep a mood journal to track how you're feeling
Important Safety Information
- Some medications take 2-6 weeks to reach full effect; be patient
- Avoid alcohol while starting treatment
- Report any thoughts of self-harm to your provider or call 988, Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
- Keep all follow-up appointments
Ongoing Monitoring
- Continue taking medication as prescribed even if you start feeling better
- Track your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy levels
- Contact your provider about any side effects; adjustments can often be made
- Engage in healthy routines: regular sleep schedule, exercise, social connection
When to call your provider or 911
- •Call your care team today if you notice: Thoughts of harming yourself or others. Call 988 immediately
- •Call 911 now if you notice: Severe allergic reaction: rash, swelling, difficulty breathing
